Tis the Season!

The girls got a bit of a nasty cough last week...it's been going around. Seems like everyone has it. I really wanted to beat this thing and get healthy again!

I had been reading about elderberries and how awesome they are!
Full of antioxidants
More vitamin C than oranges
High in vitamin A
Anti-infammatory
Antiviral-shown to treat cold and flus

Time to make some of this awesome stuff! The recipes are all over pinterest...and are pretty much the same. Since we were fighting colds we took the dosage for when sick. It honestly really works! Definitely going to keep this stuff on hand this cold and flu season! The girls love it too! It really does taste good! Which is an added bonus!

The recipe I used:

Elderberry Syrup

Ingredients:

2/3 cup dried elderberries {got mine here}
3 1/2 cups water
2 Tablespoons fresh or dried ginger root {find it here}
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon cloves {didn't have any on hand so omitted it}
1 cup raw honey {added later}

Directions: Pour water into medium saucepan and add elderberries, ginger, cinnamon and cloves (do not add honey yet, because the heat will destroy many of its medicinal benefits)
Bring to a boil and then cover and reduce to a simmer for about 45 minutes to an hour until the liquid has reduced by almost half.
At that point, remove from heat and let cool enough to be handled. Pour through a strainer into a glass bowl. Discard elderberries and let liquid cool to lukewarm {I took the elderberries and pureed them to use in smoothies}. When cooled add honey and stir well. When honey is well mixed, pour the syrup into a pint sized jar. Store in refrigerator and will last for several months.

AND you're DONE!

Standard dose is 1 tsp for kids and 1 Tbsp for adults. If the cold or flu does strike, take the normal dose every 2-3 hours instead of once a day until symptoms disappear. We also added it on top of pancakes and waffles this week! Yummy!

Happy Thanksgiving!!

 Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving counting your BLESSINGS!

I love this time of year! A time to remember God's goodness and faithfulness, and His mercy which is new every day!!
 A fun project I did...printed out letters and then used them as stencils to paint what I wanted onto the burlap!

 In progress!

 This was Robert's first Thanksgiving! We are so thankful for his wonderful birth and what a sweet, happy bundle of smiles and joy he is! Love our little man!

Day planners and Accountability

Ever have those days where you know you have a ton to do, but just can't seem to focus and accomplish what needs to be done?

One thing that I was struggling with was being consistent in my daily devotions. I knew I needed to be in the Word, but either couldn't find the time or really when it came down to it didn't make the time because I would make time for Pinterest, or other trivial things. I was feeling the need to get in the Word daily, feeling guilty when I wasn't...

When my sister came and spent a week with us earlier in the summer things changed.

We had such a fun time...doing home projects, taking long walks, wonderful sister talks, shopping, and making yummy food!

She bought me a Franklin Covey day planner at the beginning of the year which I was so excited about, but had been without one for so long that I was out of the habit of using one. Till Anna came! We decided to be accountable to each other and share our planner pages.

We will text each other in the evening our days and what we have planned for the next day. It has been so wonderful to be accountable plus I have the added benefit of knowing what's going on in her life, and having a closer relationship with her!! I would definitely encourage you to find someone close to be accountable to in some way! Whether it's just to remind each other to be in the Word, or whether it's to do more than that; you both will benefit from it greatly!!

HaPpY BiRtHdAy AtY!!!

We Love our sweet Aty girl! Atalisa has grown up so much! She is mommy's little helper and loves doing everything I do! She has such a love for the things of God and constantly wants to learn more about Him! Whenever we forget to read the Bible to them she will remind us!

It is definite motivation to diligently teach her about God during these formidable years!

She is strong yet sensitive, more cautious and reserved initially when meeting people, but is very comfortable when she knows them, she loves learning new things and being around people.

She loves to pretend and be a princess, and is all about pretty tea things!

This year we had a fun water theme party along with a friend who's birthday is a week after hers! It was such a fun gorgeous day with family and friends!
